Agreement to these terms
By using herbertdesigns.com, the Quire app at herbertdesigns.com/quire, or buying anything from us, you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Herbert Designs is owned by James Herbert and based in Florida, USA. "We," "us," and "our" mean Herbert Designs, our publishing imprint.
You must be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian's permission, to make a purchase. Purchases on our Etsy shop are also governed by Etsy's Terms of Use; if those terms conflict with these for an Etsy order, Etsy's terms control.
Orders, payment, and shipping
- Prices are in U.S. dollars. Sales tax is added at checkout where required. We may change prices at any time, but not on an order you have already placed.
- Payment is processed by Etsy. Your order is confirmed when payment is approved.
- We may cancel an order if an item is unavailable, a price was listed in error, or we suspect fraud. If we cancel, you get a full refund.
- Shipping: physical books ship to the address you provide. Delivery times are estimates. Once a package is handed to the carrier, we are not responsible for carrier delays, but we will help you track a lost package. Please check your address before ordering.
Returns and refunds

Request a return by emailing support@herbertdesigns.com with your order number. Refunds go back to your original payment method. Etsy orders follow the return policy shown in our Etsy shop.
What you may do with our products
When you buy a digital product, you get a license to use it, not ownership of the file or its content.

Public-domain texts. The original texts of our Herbert Designs editions (for example, the 1818 Frankenstein) are in the public domain, and you are free to use those texts from any public source. Everything we added is our copyrighted work: the typesetting and page design, cover art, introductions, notes, and edits. Please do not copy those parts.
Our site content. Our name, logos, photos, designs, text, and the Quire software belong to Herbert Designs and are protected by copyright. You may not copy or reuse them without our permission.
Using Quire
Quire is free to use and runs in your browser; your files stay on your device. You keep all rights to the documents you work on in Quire.
- Keep your own backups. We do not store your files and cannot recover them. Check your printed signatures before a full print run; we are not responsible for wasted paper, ink, or materials.
- Use it lawfully. Only print material you have the right to print. Do not use Quire to infringe anyone's copyright.
- Don't misuse it. Do not try to hack, overload, copy, reverse-engineer, or resell Quire, or use it to harm the site or other users.
- It may change. We may update, change, or stop offering Quire, or any part of the site, at any time.
Acceptable use of the site
Do not use our site to break the law, send spam, upload viruses or harmful code, scrape the site with automated tools, or pretend to be someone else. We may block anyone who does.
Safety: bookbinding tool plans
Building and using tools involves real risk. Our plans call for power tools, cutting, and presses that create strong clamping force, which can cause serious injury.
You are responsible for your own safety. Use proper protective equipment, follow the manufacturer's instructions for every tool and material, and do not build anything beyond your skill level. Results depend on your materials and workmanship, so we cannot guarantee that a tool you build will perform as shown. You build and use tools from our plans at your own risk.
Disclaimers
The site, Quire, our plans, and our products are provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise the site or Quire will be error-free or always available.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Herbert Designs and its owner are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost data, or wasted materials. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the product involved, or $50 if you paid nothing.
You agree to hold Herbert Designs harmless from claims arising from your misuse of the site, our products, or our plans, or your breaking of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Polk County, Florida, and you agree to that location.
Other terms
- Changes: we may update these terms and will change the "Last updated" date when we do. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
- Severability: if any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- Entire agreement: these terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Cookie Policy are the full agreement between you and us about the site.
